The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to reprise their roles in the new Hunger Games instalment, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
Reports indicate that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
An Important Comeback for the Franchise
Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their appearance will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, as the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This represents the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several prominent actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
